UPI Hits 24 Billion Transactions In September, Up 23%

The Unified Payments Interface processed 24.07 billion transactions worth Rs 29.37 lakh crore in September 2026, according to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India on October 1. Volumes grew 23 per cent year-on-year while value rose 18 per cent.
On a daily average basis, UPI crossed 800 million transactions for the first time, reaching 802 million a day, with average daily value at Rs 97,913 crore. September’s monthly total was lower than August’s 24.51 billion transactions only because the month had 30 days against August’s 31, StartupTalky reported.
The Immediate Payment Service also posted strong numbers, with September transfer value at Rs 7.06 lakh crore, up 18 per cent year-on-year, NPCI data showed.
Separately, leading traders’ bodies withdrew their call to observe October 2 as a ‘No UPI Day’ after meeting Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The move followed concerns over a proposed 0.4 per cent fee on merchant UPI transactions above Rs 2,000.
