Badrinath calls Mohit Sharma a ‘rookie’ after CSK coaching pick

Mohit Sharma will join Chennai Super Kings as bowling coach for IPL 2027, on the recommendation of new head coach Zaheer Khan. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the appointment to the Times of India, saying Mohit replaces Eric Simons.
Mohit retired from all formats in December 2025. He played 120 IPL games and took 134 wickets, winning the 2014 Purple Cap with 23 wickets for CSK. The move marks his return to the franchise where he began his IPL journey in 2013.
Former CSK batter S Badrinath has questioned the pick. On his YouTube channel, Badrinath called Mohit ‘a little bit of a rookie’ as a coach and suggested his strong relationship with MS Dhoni may have played a role in the selection.
The appointment is part of CSK’s coaching rebuild after Stephen Fleming’s 18-year association ended. Viswanathan said more staff appointments will follow on Zaheer’s recommendation in the coming weeks.
