RGV questions celebs’ response to Janhvi deepfake row
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has questioned how celebrities reacted to an AI-morphed video of actor Janhvi Kapoor that circulated online.
Varma said on X that celebrities who publicly condemned the video ended up drawing more attention to it. “The only thing all the celebrities succeeded in is to publicise and thereby make crores and crores of people see the objectionable link,” he wrote.
He said the focus should have been on catching the person behind the video rather than drawing attention to the content. “The smart thing would have been to concentrate on catching the perpetrator and publicise that,” he added.
The AI-morphed video used footage from the song Chuttamalle in Janhvi’s Telugu debut film Devara: Part 1. Janhvi, Jr NTR and Vijay Deverakonda had condemned the video.
Jr NTR called the creation of the video “disgusting, sick and shameless” and warned of legal action. Janhvi urged people to respect her image, boundaries and choice.
