India’s hockey double gold seals direct LA 2028 qualification

India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams have both secured direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics with their Asian Games gold medals.
The men defended their title with a 5-1 win over Malaysia in the final on October 3. It made them the first Indian men’s side to win back-to-back Asian Games hockey golds.
A day earlier, the women beat China 1-0 to reclaim the gold, ending a 44-year wait. It was the first time both Indian teams won hockey gold at the same Asian Games.
Hockey India announced cash rewards of Rs 11 lakh for every player and Rs 5.5 lakh for each support staff member. President Dilip Tirkey praised the squads for a historic campaign.
The men scored 58 goals in seven matches with a plus-50 goal difference. Captain Harmanpreet Singh finished with 12 goals, sharing the tournament’s scoring lead. Attention now shifts to building toward LA 2028.
