SpaceX retries Vandenberg launch after scrub
SpaceX retried a Falcon 9 rocket launch from California overnight on October 6 after a last-minute scrub.
The rocket had triggered an automatic abort on October 5 at Vandenberg Space Force Base. SpaceX said the vehicle and payload were in good health.
The new launch window opened at 12:59 a.m. Pacific Time from Space Launch Complex 4-East. The mission will deploy 21 Tranche 1 satellites for the US Space Development Agency.
This is the fourth batch of Tranche 1 satellites that SpaceX is helping to deliver. Together they will form a 154-satellite network in low-Earth orbit.
The satellites will provide global military tactical communication and missile defence by 2027. They carry advanced optical communication payloads.
The launch would be the 67th from Vandenberg in 2026. The base is on track to beat its 2025 record of 71 launches. SpaceX has become the workhorse of US military satellite launches. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 is the company’s reusable workhorse rocket, with its first stage designed to return and land for reuse.
