Tom Johnstone Wins Rob Burrow Award After Grand Final Heroics

Tom Johnstone was named the Rob Burrow Award winner after his match-winning display in Wakefield Trinity's Grand Final victory over Warrington. The England winger scored one try and set up another in the 23-10 win. Johnstone said he could not stop crying after the game.

He admitted it had been his dream for years to win a Grand Final with Wakefield. His story is one of fightback. He came through at Trinity as a teenager, lost the 2023 Grand Final with Catalans Dragons, and battled two serious knee injuries.

The award is named after Leeds Rhinos and Super League legend Rob Burrow. It is given to the player of the match in the Grand Final. Johnstone, 31, said the club meant everything to him.

He praised coach Daryl Powell and said the squad had built something special this season. Johnstone grew up in Leeds watching Rob Burrow play. He said winning the award named after him meant a lot.

The winger scored Trinity's fourth try to seal the win. He also set up Isaiah Vagana for another score.
