Driver hits four at BC mall, two dead; medical emergency suspected

Two elderly women are dead and two other people were hurt after a driver struck four pedestrians outside a British Columbia shopping mall.
The incident happened September 30 outside Tsawwassen Mills, a large mall south of Vancouver. The victims were identified as Virginia Splockton and Barb Joe.
Police say the crash may have been caused by a medical emergency suffered by the driver. Investigators do not believe the driver acted with intent.
The crash occurred during a Truth and Reconciliation Day commemorative walk at the mall. Police stressed there is no evidence the victims were targeted, and the walk was not the cause.
Two survivors were treated for injuries. Police are continuing to interview witnesses and review camera footage.
Local officials expressed condolences. The mall remained open while the investigation continued.
Tsawwassen Mills is one of British Columbia's largest shopping centres, drawing visitors from across the Lower Mainland. Mall management said it was cooperating fully with investigators. Counselling support has been offered to staff and witnesses.
