Nobel Chemistry Prize Tomorrow: What to Watch

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be announced on Wednesday, October 7, at 11:45 CEST (3:15 PM IST) by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm. It is the third announcement of Nobel week.
The 2026 prizes began on October 5 with medicine going to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel for optogenetics, the technique that uses light to switch nerve cells on and off. The physics prize is announced on October 6, followed by chemistry, literature (October 8), peace (October 9) and economic sciences (October 12).
Predicted contenders for chemistry include work on biomolecular condensates, the droplets inside living cells, and the Buchwald-Hartwig coupling reaction widely used in drug synthesis, according to science commentators. The Nobel committees never confirm shortlists, so predictions remain speculation.
This year's prize money has been raised to 12 million Swedish kronor, up from 11 million. All announcements are streamed live on the Nobel Prize's official channels. The laureates receive their medals in Stockholm on December 10.
