Trump Names Jay Clayton as New AI Czar

President Donald Trump has named national intelligence chief Jay Clayton as his new AI czar. Trump announced the appointment on Truth Social on October 4, saying Clayton will lead a "Super Intelligence Force" on artificial intelligence.
The group has 120 days to deliver a report on the risks and opportunities of AI. Its members include FTC chair Andrew Ferguson, OMB official Scott Kupor and tech executive Emil Michael. The mandate covers both the economic promise of AI and its national security risks.
Clayton, a former SEC chairman now serving as intelligence chief, brings a mix of financial regulation and security experience. The White House says the force will coordinate AI policy across agencies.
The move comes as governments worldwide race to set AI rules. Tech companies will watch the 120-day report closely — its findings could shape US regulation on frontier AI models, data centres and AI safety standards for years.
