Karnataka SIR: 43.43 Lakh Notices Delivered, Final Roll Due Oct 27

More than 43.43 lakh notices have been delivered to electors in Karnataka under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office said 43,82,306 notices were generated and 99.11 per cent delivered.
Of the delivered notices, 35,60,833 hearings have been completed, about 82 per cent. The CEO’s office also received 84,900 Form 7 applications between June 16 and October 1. It said none of them was filed as an objection to the proposed inclusion of a name.
CEO V Anbukkumar has directed officials to act against applicants found making knowingly false statements in electoral forms. This followed allegations of bulk filing of Form 7 applications seeking deletion of eligible voters’ names.
Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Cabinet colleagues staged a sit-in outside the CEO’s office demanding an FIR and an inquiry into the alleged misuse of Form 7.
The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 27. Bengaluru’s four districts account for about 24.05 lakh notices, more than half the total.
