India’s New Project Plans Hit Rs 30.4 Trillion in H1

New project announcements in India rose 34.7 percent year-on-year to 30.4 trillion rupees in the first half of FY27, according to Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy data cited on October 5.
But the headline number hides a sharp quarterly slowdown. New proposals contracted nearly 6 percent year-on-year in the September quarter, after a 69 percent surge in the June quarter, and dropped almost 50 percent sequentially.
Investment remains concentrated in a few sectors. Data centers and nuclear power accounted for 25 percent of all September-quarter announcements and almost 75 percent of June-quarter proposals, according to CMIE data. Mega-ventures included Adani Enterprises' 1.1-trillion-rupee Odisha aluminium project and the 1.04-trillion-rupee Naraj hyperscale AI data center hub.
Services-led announcements doubled to 11.9 trillion rupees, driven by IT projects, while electricity proposals rose 85 percent to 9.2 trillion rupees. Manufacturing announcements, however, fell 22.4 percent to 8.2 trillion rupees. Economists say the recovery reflects power and new-economy infrastructure rather than a broad manufacturing revival.
