Germany stuck in third as October break turns up pressure

Germany finished October's international break third in their Nations League group after a goalless draw with Greece in Thessaloniki, their fourth consecutive game without a win. The four-time world champions have five points, three behind both Greece and the Netherlands.
It is the first international break of Jurgen Klopp's tenure with Germany's World Cup qualification hopes under strain. His side have scored only three goals in four matches this month.
The Thessaloniki draw was flat. Substitute Jonathan Burkardt had a goal ruled out by VAR, while keeper Oliver Baumann made three saves to keep a clean sheet. Leon Goretzka was singled out for criticism after a lackluster display against Luxembourg.
Klopp admitted his team lack identity and confidence after the winless run. The manager has urged calm, pointing to Serbia and the Netherlands in November as the decisive games in a group where only the winners go through.
Germany's World Cup qualifying campaign begins in June 2027, but the pressure is already rising. November's fixtures in Belgrade and Gelsenkirchen will define whether this is a blip or something deeper.
