Nandankanan zoo gets 36 new animals across 11 species

Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar has added 36 new animals and birds across 11 species, giving visitors fresh reasons to plan a trip. The additions were reported on October 5.
The zoo, one of India’s best-known zoological parks, regularly brings in new animals through exchanges with other zoos and breeding programmes. New arrivals typically go through health checks and a quarantine period before they are put on display for the public.
Nandankanan is famous for its white tigers and has built a strong record in captive breeding of endangered species. It draws large numbers of visitors through the year, including school groups and wildlife enthusiasts.
The animals spent about 22 days in quarantine before being released into the new enclosures, according to local reports. Fifty-eight exotic animals of 14 species had arrived from the Radhakrishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust at Vantara in Gujarat last month, and zoo officials aim to bring more rare species from different continents to attract tourists.
Zoo officials say new species help keep the collection diverse and support conservation education. Visitors planning a trip are advised to check the zoo’s official timings before visiting, as animal viewing schedules can vary by season.
