Nobel medicine prize announced today, GLP-1 pioneers tipped

The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine will be announced today at 11:30 Central European Time by the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.
The announcement, expected around 3:00 in the afternoon Indian time, opens the Nobel week. Physics follows on October 6, chemistry on October 7, literature on October 8, the peace prize on October 9 and economics on October 12.
The favourites are the scientists behind GLP-1, the gut hormone that became the basis for obesity drugs like Ozempic. Researchers Joel Drucker, Jens Juul Holst and Svetlana Mojsov feature prominently in predictions. CAR-T cancer therapy pioneer Carl June is also tipped.
This year’s prize money has been raised to 12 million Swedish kronor, about 1.06 million dollars, the Nobel Foundation announced.
The committee is famously unpredictable, and favourites are often passed over. All eyes are on Stockholm this afternoon as the announcement streams live around the world.
