Monsoon Exits Mumbai; Colaba Records Hottest October Day in 13 Years

The southwest monsoon has officially withdrawn from Mumbai. The India Meteorological Department announced the withdrawal on Saturday, October 3.
Colaba recorded its hottest October day in 13 years as skies cleared over the city. Mumbai is experiencing mainly clear conditions with the temperature around 27 degrees Celsius in the morning and a high near 36 degrees.
Residents should prepare for warm conditions and stay hydrated as the city transitions out of the monsoon season. Clear skies and rising daytime heat are prompting water-planning measures in Mumbai.
The withdrawal from Mumbai is part of the monsoon’s retreat from much of north and central India. The IMD has also declared withdrawal from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
The 2026 season ended with a national rainfall shortfall of about 10 to 13 percent. Forecasters attribute the pattern in part to a strengthening El Nino.
For October to December, the IMD projects rainfall at 88 to 112 percent of the long-period average. Most post-monsoon rain is likely to focus on the southern peninsula and east coast.
Water stress is already visible in several Madhya Pradesh districts as agencies revise local withdrawal timing.
