Karnataka Seeks Rs 7,143 Crore for Rs 46,324 Cr Drought Loss

The Karnataka government has estimated the loss from this year’s drought at 46,324.5 crore rupees across 177 taluks and has sought 7,142.64 crore rupees in assistance from the Centre, the chief minister’s office said.
The state has submitted two memorandums: the first seeking 3,705.30 crore rupees for 101 taluks, and a supplementary one for 3,437.34 crore rupees covering 76 additional taluks, according to the Indian Economic Observer.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met an inter-ministerial central team on October 3. The team is currently conducting on-the-spot assessments of crop and infrastructure losses in affected districts.
Separately, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has written to the Prime Minister, urging that a separate central team be sent to assess Kalyana Karnataka and that the full amount sought in the first memorandum be released. His letter asked that subsidies be paid through the Bhoomi land records system so genuine farmers receive help, according to Nation Press.
Kharge said 31 lakh farming families in the region are awaiting crop-loss subsidies for the 2025-26 season.
