Indian markets resume trading on Monday, October 5, after a holiday-shortened week. Investors face a packed calendar of domestic cues.
The RBI’s monetary policy decision headlines the week. The central bank meets from October 5 to 7. Most economists expect a 25-basis-point hike to 5.50 percent.
Q2 earnings season is also kicking off. Results will show how companies handled the festive quarter.
Foreign investors remain sellers. They have sold $2.7 billion of Indian shares in the spot market. Rising crude oil prices add to the pressure.
On October 1, the Sensex closed at 71,909.70, down 571 points. The Nifty ended at 22,421.95, down 199 points. Markets were shut on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti.
Benchmarks have closed in the red for eight straight weeks. Analysts see a possible technical bounce, but not a durable return to risk-on mood.
New CEO appointments at HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank could lift banking stocks. Strong Accenture results may boost IT shares.
A petrol and diesel price hike may help oil marketing companies. Their shares carry weight in the indices.
