Electric and hybrid cars top half of Turkish auto sales

Electric and hybrid cars accounted for more than half of Turkiye’s new car sales in the first nine months of 2026, according to data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD).
Of the 627,977 cars sold between January and September, hybrid models took a 32.6 percent share with 204,956 sales, while fully electric cars reached 120,329 sales, or 19.3 percent of the market. Together, electrified vehicles crossed the 50 percent mark.
Gasoline cars fell to 41.2 percent of sales, down from 45.5 percent a year earlier. Diesel sales plunged 40.7 percent to just 5.5 percent of the market.
Domestic manufacturer Togg leads Turkiye’s electric market. The company, founded in 2018, held about 25 percent of the EV market in the first five months of 2026 with its T10X and T10F models, which received 5-star Euro NCAP safety ratings.
High fuel prices are driving the shift. Diesel prices have risen sharply amid geopolitical instability in the Middle East, pushing buyers toward hybrids and electrics.
Turkiye’s EV adoption has moved fast. Electrified vehicles were only about 1 percent of new car sales in 2022, rising to 22 percent in 2025, before crossing the halfway mark this year.
