Delhi Seeks More Water From Haryana as Crisis Deepens

The Delhi government on Saturday appealed to Haryana for increased water supply as the city grapples with a severe shortage.
Officials said plants worth about Rs 880 crore are lying defunct because there is not enough raw water to run them. The appeal was made on October 3 as residents in several parts of the capital reported erratic supply.
The water crisis has arrived alongside a string of civic challenges for the city. Authorities have also warned that air quality in the Delhi-NCR region is deteriorating, which could soon trigger Graded Response Action Plan restrictions.
Delhi's water supply depends heavily on releases from Haryana, and the appeal seeks emergency quantities to stabilise distribution. The government has not yet announced a timeline for restoration.
Water-sharing between the two states has flared up repeatedly in recent summers. Any agreement with Haryana will decide how quickly taps across the capital return to normal.
