Three people died and one was critically injured early on Sunday after a speeding BMW fell off the Mumbai Coastal Road near Lotus Jetty, police said. The crash happened around 5:20 a.m. as the car travelled from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali.

According to ANI, the four occupants were rushed to Nair Hospital, where three were declared dead. The fourth, a 20-year-old man, is in critical condition in the trauma ward, the civic body said.

Senior Police Inspector Meena Jagtap of Tardeo police station told ANI that the vehicle was moving at high speed when it fell from the elevated section of the Coastal Road. The 10.58-km freeway connects Marine Drive to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

India Today accessed CCTV footage showing the car flying off the bridge after missing a turn and hitting a directional hoarding, according to its report. A separate clip showed the wrecked black BMW with police and a forensic team at the site.

Police have opened an investigation into the crash. The accident was captured on camera and video clips have circulated on social media.
