Gill flags fielding, death bowling after ODI series win

India captain Shubman Gill has flagged fielding and death bowling as concerns after India sealed a 2-1 ODI series win over the West Indies. The West Indies won the third ODI by five wickets, chasing 352 in Cuttack.
“We dropped about six-seven catches in the series, which is not a good sign leading up to the World Cup,” Gill said after the match. India dropped three catches in the third ODI alone as Shai Hope’s unbeaten 162 led the tourists home with 12 balls to spare.
Gill said the team needs clarity in death-bowling roles, with several options not executing as planned. He also revealed that Kuldeep Yadav was held back because fast bowler Gurnoor Brar suffered cramps during the innings.
Gill was named Player of the Series after scoring 334 runs. KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also passed fifty in the decider, but India’s total of 351 for five proved insufficient.
India next play five ODIs in New Zealand in November. Gill said the tour will be a key test of the team’s World Cup preparations.
