Delhi launches AI-powered command centre to fight winter smog

Delhi has launched an AI-enabled Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) to monitor air pollution in real time ahead of the winter smog season.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the facility at the DMRC IT Park on October 1. The centre brings pollution data from multiple agencies onto a single dashboard for faster responses to hotspots.
According to reports, the ICCC tracks mechanical road sweepers in real time and monitors 789 construction sites through live CCTV at 716 locations to curb dust. Rapid-action teams called ‘Vayu Rakshaks’ with GPS-enabled vehicles will investigate local violations.
The centre will be supported by 334 enforcement teams working in shifts. Continuous air quality monitoring stations are being expanded from 47 to 60.
The launch is part of Delhi’s Winter Action Plan 2026-27, which includes a construction ban from November, 50 per cent work-from-home for offices, and no fuel for vehicles without a valid pollution certificate.
Delhi recorded its most polluted start to October in four years this week, with the AQI touching 166 on October 2.
