Telangana Congress Accuses Centre Over Voter Deletions

Telangana Congress chief Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged removal of voters’ names from electoral rolls in the state. He raised the issue during a party protest in Hyderabad.
Congress workers marched from the Indira Gandhi statue to the Election Commission office. The party demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.
Goud alleged that the revision has led to the deletion of voters from demographics supportive of the party. The Election Commission has stated that all decisions on the revision process were reached unanimously.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who joined the protest, said the party’s concerns had been vindicated. He called on all democratic forces to join the Congress struggle.
The Election Commission maintains that the revision, held after 22 years, will cleanse the rolls of ineligible people and duplicate entries. The dispute shows no sign of settling.
