Gill: India Could Not Field Its Preferred Bowling Lineup

India captain Shubman Gill admitted the hosts could not field the bowling lineup they wanted during the three-match ODI series against West Indies. India won the series 2-1 but lost the final game by five wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel were all unavailable. The three were part of the T20I squad that won the gold medal at the Asian Games. India handed debuts to Naman Dhir, Auqib Nabi and Anshul Kamboj in the ODI series.
Gill said the situation was unfortunate but out of the team’s hands. He called it a good chance for new players to showcase their skills at the international level.
He also said there is little time to experiment before the 2027 ODI World Cup. The team wants to settle on its preferred combination from the next series onward.
Harshit Rana and Hardik Pandya are recovering from injuries, according to Gill. West Indies chased down 352 in the third ODI on the back of Shai Hope’s unbeaten 162.
