UAE Beat Oman 1-0 to Set Up Gulf Cup Final With Saudi
Forward Ousmane Camara scored the only goal as the United Arab Emirates beat Oman 1-0 on Saturday to reach the Gulf Cup final. Camara headed home from close range to seal the semifinal win.
The UAE will face Saudi Arabia in Tuesday’s final at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. Saudi Arabia beat Asian champions Qatar 3-2 on penalties after 120 goalless minutes in the earlier semifinal.
Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais made two saves in the shootout, denying Jassem Gaber and Boualem Khoukhi from the spot. He saved Khoukhi’s kick twice after the first attempt was ordered to be retaken.
UAE playmaker Nicolas Gimenez missed a penalty in the 56th minute against Oman but it did not cost his side. Oman, runners-up in the previous edition, went out after reaching the semifinals ahead of Iraq.
The UAE are in their first Gulf Cup final since 2018. They are chasing a third title after triumphs in 2007 and 2013. Saudi Arabia hope to end a 22-year wait to lift the trophy again.
