Delhi opens AI-based 24×7 pollution command centre

Delhi has launched an Integrated Command and Control Centre to monitor air pollution in real time. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the Delhi Pollution Control Committee facility on October 1. It is located at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s IT Park in Shastri Park.
The centre will operate round the clock through the winter pollution season. It brings pollution data, CCTV feeds, air quality readings, complaints and field inspection reports onto one system. More than 700 construction sites larger than 500 square metres will be watched through AI-enabled cameras.
If PM10 dust levels rise at a site, alerts will go to the concerned department and the site owner. GPS systems will track mechanical road-sweeping machines, including their routes and working hours. The centre will work with 78 sub-division-level monitoring and enforcement teams this winter.
Rapid-action teams called Vayu Rakshaks will investigate local sources such as open burning. Gupta said the approach follows the principle of Detect, Analyse, Act and Verify. The launch comes ahead of Delhi’s winter action plan, which runs from November 1 to February 2027.
