Adani Airports to redevelop Mumbai T1B from Jan 2027

Adani Airports will begin a phased redevelopment of the north section of Terminal 1B at Mumbai airport from January 2027, the company announced.
The 60-year-old structure handles about five million passengers a year, roughly nine per cent of Mumbai airport’s 55 million annual traffic. Airlines operating from the section will be able to shift to the new Navi Mumbai International Airport during the work.
The redevelopment will raise the terminal’s capacity from 15 million to 20 million passengers a year, a 33 per cent increase. The project includes modern passenger facilities, better baggage systems and improved safety infrastructure.
“We have been consulting with airlines and regulators since 2020 on this plan,” said chief executive Arun Bansal. He said the work will be done in phases so operations are not disrupted. The tariff framework has been agreed with the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority.
The terminal made headlines in April when a fire broke out in part of the building. No one was hurt, but the incident highlighted the ageing infrastructure. The redevelopment is part of Adani’s long-term plan to modernise India’s busiest airports.
