Zverev sets up Djokovic quarter-final at China Open

Top seed Alexander Zverev swept aside China’s Shang Juncheng 6-0, 6-3 in just 55 minutes on Saturday to reach the China Open quarter-finals in Beijing.
Zverev fired nine aces and lost only three of 28 first-serve points under a closed roof. The 21-year-old Shang, who missed four months of the season with fitness issues, struggled for rhythm. Zverev has now won 48 of his last 49 matches against left-handers.
The win sets up a blockbuster quarter-final against Novak Djokovic on Sunday. Djokovic, the six-time Beijing champion, holds a perfect 31-0 record at the event and leads Zverev 9-5 in their head-to-head meetings.
Zverev, the reigning French Open and US Open champion, improved his 2026 season record to 58-14, the best on the ATP Tour. He is chasing the year-end world No.1 ranking. “I’ve got a very difficult opponent tomorrow, but I’m looking forward to those challenges,” Zverev said.
Jannik Sinner, last year’s Beijing champion, is skipping the event and next week’s Shanghai Masters. Also in Beijing, Daniil Medvedev beat Jan-Lennard Struff to reach the last eight.
