Markets Reopen Monday: RBI Policy, TCS Results Among Week’s Triggers

Indian markets reopen on Monday, October 5 after the Gandhi Jayanti holiday, with a busy week of triggers ahead. The NSE and BSE were closed on Friday, October 2, and regular trading resumes on Monday.
The biggest domestic trigger is the RBI’s monetary policy decision. The Monetary Policy Committee meets from October 5 to 7, with Governor Sanjay Malhotra announcing the decision on October 7. Most economists expect a 25-basis-point rate hike to 5.50%, the first since February 2023, as retail inflation ran at 4.82% in August.
TCS kicks off Q2 earnings season. Its board meets on October 8 to approve results for the quarter ended September 30 and to consider a second interim dividend, with October 14 as the record date.
Foreign investors remain the drag. FIIs sold Indian shares worth Rs 44,012.82 crore in September, taking year-to-date outflows to $27.8 billion, while crude oil prices and global yields stay high.
Why it matters: the RBI’s call and TCS’s numbers will set the tone for the rest of the earnings season.
