Minnesota Upsets Michigan 20-14 in First Home Win Since 1977

Minnesota beat Michigan 20-14 on Saturday, the Golden Gophers’ first win over the Wolverines since 2014 and their first home win in the rivalry since 1977. Fans stormed the field at Huntington Bank Stadium as Minnesota claimed the Little Brown Jug.

Michigan held a 14-7 halftime lead but was shut out in the second half. Quarterback Bryce Underwood completed 10 of 21 passes for 101 yards with two interceptions, his worst game in 17 starts at Michigan. Michigan turned the ball over three times in the second half.

Minnesota took the lead for good on a 3-yard touchdown reception by Darius Taylor from Drake Lindsey, who completed 17 of 25 passes for 136 yards. Lindsey also threw two interceptions, one returned 79 yards for a Michigan touchdown by Nathaniel Staehling.

The Wolverines fell to 3-2 and 0-2 in the Big Ten, leaving their College Football Playoff hopes in serious trouble. “Besides my marriage and my kids being born, this might be the best day of my life,” Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck said.

Why it matters: the Little Brown Jug is staying in Minneapolis, and Michigan’s season is now in crisis.
