India finish fourth at Asian Games 2026 with 85 medals

India finished fourth at the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya on Saturday with 85 medals: 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze, according to The Times of Bengal’s final tally.

China topped the table by a wide margin with 341 medals, including 169 gold. Japan were second with 269 medals and South Korea third with 150. India edged past Uzbekistan, who finished fifth with 70 medals.

India could not match the 106 medals won at Hangzhou 2022. But a late surge helped: 11 of India’s 21 gold medals arrived in the final two days of competition.

Saturday brought a golden rush. The cricket and hockey teams defended their titles, Aman Sehrawat won wrestling gold, Kumkum Mohod took historic archery gold, and Pranavi Urs won golf gold.

The 85-medal haul keeps India firmly in Asia’s top tier. With the closing ceremony on October 4, attention now turns to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where India’s medal winners will lead the charge.
