Chadha, Maliwal Get Panel Roles After AAP-to-BJP Switch
Rajya Sabha members Raghav Chadha and Swati Maliwal, who recently switched from the Aam Aadmi Party to the BJP, have been given prominent roles in the reconstituted parliamentary committees for 2026-27.
Chadha has been placed on the Committee on External Affairs, while Maliwal joins the Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports. The committees were reconstituted with effect from September 26.
Several leadership posts changed hands. BJP’s Sudhanshu Trivedi will head the Committee on Commerce, replacing the Trinamool Congress’s Dola Sen. Sudheer Gupta takes charge of the Committee on Railways, replacing C. M. Ramesh.
Radha Mohan Singh will head the Committee on Defence, while Bhartruhari Mahtab continues to chair the Committee on Finance. Nishikant Dubey retains the communications and IT panel.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been assigned to the Committee on Defence, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra finds a place on the Committee on Home Affairs. Shashi Tharoor was retained as head of the external affairs panel.
