Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah join CJP protest at Shivaji Park

Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah joined the CJP’s “Jail Bharo Andolan” at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Friday. The protest targets the Election Commission over the voter-roll revision.
Azmi addressed the gathering on voting rights. She said the vote is a constitutional right and citizens must protest if names are removed from electoral rolls.
Naseeruddin Shah met CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke at the venue. A video showed the two greeting each other warmly.
Singer Vishal Dadlani, filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj and singer Rekha Bhardwaj also attended. The protest demands the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Election Commission has maintained that its decisions, including the Special Intensive Revision of rolls, were taken unanimously by all three commissioners.
A group calling itself Gen Next Mumbai staged a counter-protest supporting the Constitution. Dipke dared Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to arrest the protesters. The EC has rejected claims of a split in its three-member panel.
