Pranavi Urs becomes first Indian woman to win Asian Games golf gold

Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman golfer to win an Asian Games gold medal on Saturday. The 23-year-old from Mysuru clinched the women’s individual title at the Kasugai Country Club in Aichi.

Pranavi held on to a one-stroke lead in the final round. She recovered from a triple bogey on the third hole with birdies on the sixth, tenth and thirteenth holes.

She finished with an even-par 70 and a four-day total of 15-under 265. China’s Yin Ruoning and Singapore’s Shannon Tan finished one stroke behind at 14-under.

It is India’s first golf gold at the Asian Games since Shiv Kapur’s men’s individual triumph in 2002. It also betters Aditi Ashok’s silver from the Hangzhou Games.

Pranavi’s performance helped India win the women’s team silver as well. Aditi Ashok shot 67 and Diksha Dagar 77 in the final round, as India finished at 14-under 546 behind China.

President Droupadi Murmu congratulated Pranavi on X, praising her composure from the opening tee to the final putt. She had carried a three-stroke overnight lead into the final round. After the triple bogey, she covered the last 15 holes in three-under without dropping another shot.
