Maratha Quota Protest Continues at Antarwali Sarati in Jalna
The Maratha quota agitation led by Manoj Jarange continued at Antarwali Sarati village in Maharashtra’s Jalna district on Tuesday, with hundreds of supporters camping at the protest site.
The protesters are demanding reservation for the Maratha community in education and government jobs. Live bulletins from the site showed crowds gathering through the day in support of the demand.
Jarange ended a 12-day hunger strike around September 11 after talks with the state government, but the agitation has continued as key demands remain unresolved.
The Bombay High Court has said that the right to agitate is a fundamental right, while asking protesters to keep demonstrations peaceful and within the law.
The Maratha reservation issue has dominated Maharashtra politics for years. Previous attempts at quota legislation have faced legal challenges in the courts.
The state government has said it is committed to finding a legally sustainable solution. Further rounds of talks with Jarange are expected in the coming days.
