Apple’s new CEO Ternus plans faster launches, leaner teams

Cupertino, Oct 3 — Apple’s new chief executive John Ternus is planning a sweeping overhaul, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported.
Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook on September 1 after leading hardware engineering, wants to break Apple’s traditional spring and fall launch cycle. New products could arrive more frequently through the year.
He aims to cut middle-management layers and shorten the distance between engineers and senior leadership. Hardware engineering has dismissed several engineering program managers in recent weeks, including about half a dozen directors.
Smaller cuts also hit Siri, Vision Pro and AI software teams. A plan to cut about 5,000 AppleCare jobs was shelved for now.
Ternus is also discussing new revenue streams with services chief Eddy Cue and CFO Kevan Parekh. Expected in 2027: camera-equipped AirPods, Apple’s first smart glasses, and a redesigned iPhone for the device’s 20th anniversary. Ternus spent 25 years at Apple before taking the top job. Employees told Bloomberg the pace inside the company feels ‘hectic right now’.
