OpenAI’s DevDay 2026: agents, Dots and GPT-6.1 Sol

San Francisco, Oct 3 — OpenAI used its DevDay event on September 29 to shift from a chatbot company to an agent platform, with more than 20 announcements.
The company introduced GPT-6.1 Sol, which it says delivers near-Astra intelligence at one-fifth of the token prices — $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.
Dots are always-on agents running on GPT-6 Astra with their own cloud computers. The Decisions API uses GPT-6 Luna for narrow, repetitive choices and is in limited preview.
The Agents API now supports computer use, letting agents operate software through its interface, in public beta. Sign in with ChatGPT lets users bring their plans to 16 launch partners.
Plugin Creator, discovery, Sites and MCP events are live now. OpenAI also launched ChatGPT Space for creating and organizing pages, and ChatGPT Dots with support for more than 4,000 apps. The announcements position OpenAI as an agent platform rather than a chatbot company. Developers can now build plugins, sites and skills for other ecosystems.
