MEA Warns Indians Against Joining Russian Armed Forces

India has warned its citizens against joining the Russian armed forces. The Ministry of External Affairs issued the advisory on September 30.
The ministry called it a ‘dangerous path’. It cited cases where Indians were recruited by non-public entities and sent to conflict zones.
Some recruits later sought to renounce their involvement and return home, officials said. The advisory asks families to report such recruitment offers.
India has raised the issue with Russian authorities before. New Delhi has sought the early release of Indians serving in the Russian military.
The government advises citizens to verify job offers abroad through official channels. Fraudulent agents often promise high salaries for support roles.
Indians in distress can contact Indian missions. The MEA runs helplines for citizens facing trouble overseas.
The ministry said some recruits were promised well-paid support jobs by private agents, only to be sent to conflict zones. It asked families to report such recruitment offers to the authorities.
