Florida Candidate Jailed After Heckling JD Vance at Tampa Rally

A 24-year-old Democratic candidate spent the night in jail after heckling Vice President JD Vance at a Florida rally. Ben Braver interrupted Vance’s keynote speech on Thursday in Lakeland.
Braver is running for the Florida House District 65 seat against Republican Karen Gonzalez Pittman. He shouted about gas prices, Iran and the Epstein files during the speech at the Sun ‘n Fun Expo Campus.
Vance called him a “clown” and a “Democrat plant.” About 2,000 people were in the audience. Police escorted Braver out of the venue.
He was then taken to the ground in the parking lot and handcuffed. Braver said he did not intend to resist and had walked out voluntarily. He spent 13 hours in the Polk County Jail and was released at 3am on a 2,000 dollar bond. He has a gash on his elbow from the arrest.
Braver has no prior arrests. He was also ejected from a Tampa event last month featuring Byron Donalds and Ron DeSantis. He earlier confronted Donalds before Thursday’s rally.
His campaign says he wanted to ask Vance about the cost of living. Republicans say the interruption was a stunt to get attention for his campaign.
