India Names 28 Ladakh Landmarks on Official Map

The Indian government has assigned standard names to 28 geographical locations and landforms in Ladakh. The Home Ministry confirmed the move on October 2 through a Press Information Bureau release.
The names cover peaks, mountains, passes, glaciers, valleys, rivers and lakes. They include Zorawar Peak, Kanishka Peak, Atisha Giri, Martand Giri, Milarepa Kangri, Shiva Ri, Gogra, Hot Spring, Guru Rinpoche Lake and Dehra Compass.
Dehra Compass lies in the disputed Aksai Chin region, which China administers but India claims as part of Ladakh. The notification does not signal any change in the Line of Actual Control.
The exercise was carried out in consultation with the Union Territory of Ladakh. According to the government, it aims to ensure accurate identification of these locations and increase public awareness.
The names will now appear on the official maps of the Survey of India. Citizens can view the updated maps on the survey’s official portal.
