Mason Miller sets postseason strikeout record for Padres

San Diego Padres closer Mason Miller has set a postseason record for the fastest 10 career strikeouts.
Miller recorded his 10th career playoff strikeout against just the 12th batter he faced, the fewest any pitcher has needed in postseason history, according to MLB researcher Sarah Langs.
The right-hander struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to close out the Padres’ 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series on Wednesday. It was his first career postseason save.
Miller is in his second season with San Diego and has been nearly unhittable in October. The Cubs managed only one extra-base hit across the two-game series.
The 22-year-old’s rise has given the Padres one of the most feared bullpens in baseball heading into the Division Series against Milwaukee.
Why it matters: Miller’s dominance at the back end could be the difference-maker as the Padres chase the franchise’s first World Series title.
