Foreign direct investment into India rose 6 per cent to $19.81 billion in the April-June quarter of FY27, according to data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade. The figure compares with $18.62 billion in the same quarter last year.
Japan emerged as the top investor with $5.71 billion, followed by Singapore at $5.22 billion and Mauritius at $2.31 billion. Investment from the United States fell sharply, down 76 per cent to $1.34 billion. Total FDI, including reinvested earnings, rose 22 per cent to $30.65 billion.
Tamil Nadu led the states with $5.95 billion in inflows, driven by the MUFG investment in Shriram Finance. Maharashtra followed at $4.22 billion. The services sector attracted the most money at $7.04 billion.
The data shows April was exceptionally strong at $12.1 billion, while May and June were weaker. Analysts say the full-year trajectory will depend on how trade talks, particularly with the US, play out.
