Reddit is ending public RSS and data access by March 2027

Reddit is winding down its public data access programme. The platform will shut its public RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, and stop accepting new public API requests from October 31, 2026. Unregistered apps will lose access on January 12, 2027, and the full public API will end in March 2027.
The company says it is moving to a licensed-access model for large-scale data use. It has launched a one-million-dollar migration fund to help developers and researchers move off the public API. Reddit says more than 14,000 apps rely on its public data today.
Paid partnerships are not affected. Reddit's existing data deals with companies such as Google and OpenAI will continue, and licensed enterprise access will remain available. The company has also taken legal action against AI firms it accuses of scraping its data, including Anthropic and Perplexity.
For ordinary users, little will change in day-to-day browsing. But researchers, archivists, and independent app makers who built tools on the free API will need to find alternatives or pay for access before the deadlines hit.
