Over 40 Tibetan Activists Detained Outside Chinese Embassy

More than 40 Tibetan activists were detained outside the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi on October 1, coinciding with China's 77th National Day.
Members of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) had gathered to protest when police moved in and detained the demonstrators. They were taken to the Mandir Marg police station.
The detentions are part of a familiar pattern. Tibetan groups in Delhi regularly stage protests on sensitive dates, and police routinely detain participants to prevent escalation near the embassy.
The TYC has long campaigned for Tibetan independence and against Chinese rule in Tibet. Its protests often coincide with anniversaries and official Chinese events.
India hosts the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharamshala. The presence of the Tibetan community makes Delhi a focal point for such demonstrations.
Police said the detentions were preventive. The activists were expected to be released after a few hours, as is standard practice.
The protest comes amid strained India-China relations, with border talks continuing and trade ties under review. Neither government commented on the detentions.
