OpenAI Connects ChatGPT to 12,000 Banks via Plaid

OpenAI has launched personal finance tools inside ChatGPT that can connect to more than 12,000 financial institutions through data network Plaid, according to reports on October 1-2.
Available in preview to US Pro subscribers, the feature links accounts at firms including Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express and Capital One. Users can ask for spending breakdowns, portfolio summaries and subscription audits in plain language.
The launch follows OpenAI’s April acquisition of the Hiro fintech team and marks its deepest push yet into personal finance. TechCrunch first reported the rollout.
The move puts ChatGPT in direct competition with budgeting apps and bank dashboards. It also raises familiar questions about data privacy: connecting bank accounts to an AI chatbot means trusting OpenAI and Plaid with some of the most sensitive financial data a person holds. OpenAI says users control which accounts are linked and can disconnect at any time A wider rollout beyond Pro subscribers has not been announced.
