Supreme Court Blocks Missouri Gerrymander a Third Time

The US Supreme Court has blocked Missouri’s mid-decade congressional gerrymander for the third time, ruling that the 2022 map will remain in place for the November 3 elections.
The map, known as HB 1, was pushed through by the state legislature to create an additional Republican-leaning seat. The Missouri Supreme Court had unanimously held that HB 1 “is not the law and has never been the law”, and a Prop A referendum challenge is still pending.
President Donald Trump reacted sharply, saying: “The Supreme Court of the United States will just not let Missouri have an Election Victory.” The remark came around September 27.
Voting-rights groups welcomed the ruling as a win for fair maps. The decision is one of several court interventions this cycle that have limited last-minute redistricting ahead of the midterms, with control of the House of Representatives at stake in a tightly contested national environment The ruling applies only to the November 3 contest.
