Suruchi, Kamaljeet’s Asian record fires India to shooting gold

Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet won the 10m air pistol mixed team gold at the Asian Games in Nagoya, setting a new Asian record in the final.
The Indian pair combined for 484.6 in the final on September 25, breaking the previous Asian mark. They had already set an Asian Games qualifying record of 587 to top the field.
South Korea’s Choo Gaeun and Hong Suhyeon took silver with 478.0, while Iran’s Haniyeh Rostamyan and Vahid Golkhandan claimed bronze with 415.8.
Both Indians had missed the individual 10m air pistol final. Coach Samaresh Jung told them to leave the past behind and trust their technique, and the pair responded with a composed performance under pressure.
Their qualifying score of 587 was itself an Asian record, making the gold a record double. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the duo on X, calling it ‘an excellent performance with a new Asian Record.’ The gold added to India’s growing shooting tally at the Games.
