Gill’s 223* Powers India to Record 406 Chase Over WI

India chased down 406 against the West Indies in the second ODI in Guwahati, winning by eight wickets. Captain Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls, the highest individual score in a successful ODI chase.

West Indies had posted 405 for seven, their highest ODI total, built on hundreds from John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114). Gill reached his double century in 117 balls, the fastest in ODI history, and went past Glenn Maxwell’s 201 not out for the top chase score. He hit 26 fours and eight sixes.

Rohit Sharma supported with 101 off 75 balls, his 35th ODI hundred, during a 255-run opening stand. Rohit also crossed 12,000 ODI runs in the innings. Virat Kohli made 29 before Ruturaj Gaikwad’s unbeaten 31 took India home with 39 balls to spare.

The win gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. It also broke India’s previous best chase of 362 against Australia in Jaipur in 2013.
