Rajasthan cabinet clears Rs 13,037-cr Jaipur Metro Phase-2

The Rajasthan cabinet has approved the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project at an estimated cost of Rs 13,037 crore, clearing one of the state’s biggest urban infrastructure proposals.
The approval, granted on October 1, aims to significantly expand metro connectivity across the Pink City. Officials described it as a major step in the city’s public transportation development.
Phase-2 is expected to extend the metro network to new corridors, easing congestion in a city where traffic pressure has been rising. The project will now move toward detailed planning and tendering stages.
The metro expansion comes alongside other infrastructure moves in the region, including a Rs 24-crore four-lane highway project on the Jaipur Highway aimed at easing travel between Haldiram Pyau and the bypass intersection.
For residents, the approval signals faster intra-city travel in the coming years. Metro systems in Indian cities have typically seen ridership grow once new corridors open, as seen in Chennai where the metro recorded over one crore passenger trips in September 2026 for the third consecutive month.
