Putin: No Diesel Exports Till Sanctions Lifted

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that Russia will not supply diesel to global energy markets until sanctions against Moscow are lifted. He was speaking at the Valdai Forum of international Russia experts in Moscow. Putin also said Ukraine had ‘partially achieved its objectives’ with strikes on Russian oil refineries, adding that the strikes had cost Russia about 1 per cent of its gross domestic product. Meanwhile, reports say China has halted most refined fuel exports for October, as Beijing gives priority to domestic supply. This removes another source of diesel, petrol and jet fuel from an already tight global market. United States President Donald Trump has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a private phone call to stop attacks on Russian refineries, reports said. Trump has also warned in public that the strikes could squeeze global fuel supplies. Britain is reported to be in talks with European allies over releasing emergency diesel stockpiles.
